I-CAR Gold Class Body Shop in Los Angeles & Orange County

I-CAR Gold Class certification is the collision repair industry’s highest training recognition for body shops. It is not a self-awarded title. It is earned through structured, ongoing education across every role in the shop, from estimators and repair planners to structural technicians and refinish specialists. Pristine Collision Center holds I-CAR Gold Class status, and our team includes I-CAR Platinum-level technicians who have achieved the highest individual training tier in the program.

I-CAR GOLD CLASS

What Is I-CAR Gold Class?

I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) is the industry standard-setting organization for collision repair training in the United States. Gold Class is their shop-level recognition, awarded to facilities where role representatives across the operation have completed ProLevel 2 or higher training through I-CAR’s Professional Development Program.

This is not a one-time achievement. Gold Class requires annual renewal. Every year, our team must complete additional training to maintain the credential. If training lapses, the designation is lost.

The significance: a relatively small percentage of collision repair shops in the United States meet this standard. The rest may train minimally, inconsistently, or not at all.

What Gold Class Training Covers

I-CAR’s Professional Development Program organizes training across recognized Knowledge Areas. Our team maintains proficiency in:

  • Structural repair and sectioning procedures
  • Non-structural panel repair and replacement
  • Welding certification (MIG, squeeze-type resistance spot welding, rivet bonding)
  • Refinish technology and color matching
  • Estimating and repair planning
  • ADAS calibration awareness and procedures
  • EV and hybrid vehicle safety and repair
  • Advanced materials (ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum, composites)

Technicians progress through ProLevel 1 (foundational), ProLevel 2 (Gold Class requirement), and ProLevel 3 (Platinum, the highest individual tier). Our team includes technicians at the Platinum level.

Why Gold Class Matters for your Repair

  • Trained on Current Vehicle Technology
  • Every Role, Not Just Technicians
  • ADAS-Integrated Training
  • Insurance Industry Recognition

Gold Class and OEM Certifications

I-CAR Gold Class is the training foundation that supports many OEM-specific certification programs. Several automakers require or strongly recommend Gold Class as a baseline before a shop can qualify for their brand-specific network. Pristine currently holds OEM certifications from multiple manufacturers, each built on top of our Gold Class training:

  • FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles)
  • Hyundai
  • Nissan
  • Kia
  • Infiniti
  • Tesla

This layered approach to training and certification means our team does not just meet one standard. They meet multiple, overlapping standards that reinforce each other.

What Is I-CAR Gold Class?

I-CAR Gold Class is the collision repair industry’s highest shop-level training recognition. It is issued by the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) to facilities where key role representatives have completed ProLevel 2 or higher training across all major repair disciplines.

What Percentage of Body Shops Are I-CAR Gold Class?

I-CAR has historically reported that a relatively small share of collision repair shops in the U.S. achieve and maintain Gold Class. [INSERT CURRENT PERCENTAGE FROM I-CAR’S PUBLISHED DATA WITH SOURCE LINK.] The exact number shifts as shops earn or lose the designation.

Is I-CAR Gold Class the Same As Being OEM Certified?

No. Gold Class is an industry-wide training credential. OEM certification is brand-specific authorization from an individual automaker. They are complementary: Gold Class demonstrates broad training competency, while OEM certification demonstrates brand-specific equipment, parts access, and repair procedure compliance. Pristine holds both.

Does My Insurance Company Recognize I-CAR Gold Class?

Yes. Insurance companies widely recognize Gold Class as a quality indicator. Many insurers use it as a criterion for their direct repair programs, and adjusters often look for Gold Class shops when recommending facilities to policyholders.

How Often Does Gold Class Need to Be Renewed?

Gold Class requires annual renewal. Our team must complete continuing education each cycle to maintain the designation. If training requirements are not met, the shop loses Gold Class status.

What Is the Difference Between Gold Class and Platinum?

Gold Class is a shop-level designation requiring ProLevel 2 training across key roles. Platinum is an individual technician achievement, earned when a technician completes ProLevel 3, the highest tier in I-CAR’s training program. Pristine has both Gold Class shop status and individual Platinum-level technicians on staff.

Does Gold Class Mean You Can Work on Any Vehicle?

Gold Class training covers the foundational skills and knowledge applicable across modern vehicles. For brand-specific structural, calibration, or restricted-parts work, OEM certifications provide the additional authorization. Pristine combines Gold Class training with multiple OEM certifications to cover a wide range of makes and models.

How Can I Verify Pristine’s Gold Class Status?
